Newborn Photography ServicesNewborn photography is all about capturing the simple, beautiful moments of the brand new life you’ve created. It’s most effective when the subject is less than 2 weeks old because they're sleepy and they’ll curl up much easier during this time. It’s about capturing this moment before they grow up and that’s why it’s so priceless. You have a limited window of time to document these moments before they’re gone forever and your “child” starts asking you for cash and car keys.
Newborn portraiture is unique in the fact that safety is a top priority. Unlike family or general portraiture, the photographer must constantly be focused on the safety of their subject, because the newborn is not capable of fending for themselves. At Newborn Photography Niagara, safety is always our top concern. Of course, you can assist us with keeping your newborn safe, and you can also help us hold and pose the baby, help make it laugh and put it to sleep. You will see many images where the newborn appears to be on its own, but in fact, this is an illusion created by post-session image editing. The mother’s loving hand is always close by, and often touching the newborn, only to be edited out of the final photo. Taking stunning newborn photos requires more than just the proper lighting equipment. Having other equipment like a white noise machine (to simulate the noise newborns are used to hearing inside the womb) or playing back soothing sounds during the shoot can help keep the newborn in peak posing condition. The post-session image editing also plays a critical factor in the final outcome of the photos. Generally, the same amount of time goes into editing the photos as actually taking the photos. We may snap 1000 shots during a session, only to result in 10 perfect photos. These are all factors on why newborn photography is not a DIY job. You can always attempt to do a few shots of your newborn on your own, but you will absolutely notice the difference when you pay for professional photography services. |

We take pride in the simplicity of the newborn images we capture. We strive for simple materials and backdrops, aiming to capture the raw emotion of the moment we are shooting. To achieve this, we plan ahead! We need to get to know the newborn we’ll be shooting, like their feeding and nap times. Crying is a common occurrence that we know how to handle! It does make for one interesting photo, at least. It’s easiest to pose the newborn when they are sleepy. The fact that newborns spend a lot of time sleeping during their first two weeks outside the womb is another reason why we like planning newborn photography sessions during this time. Once the newborn is asleep, we can pose them any way we like and get to work!
Before the shoot, we’ll fill you in on our plan for the session, including the props we are going to use and how you can help. We love to use natural light shining in from a window. It’s the best form of soft light! When we do an in-home lifestyle shoot, we’ll take advantage of any natural light we can get. This depends on the time of the day and the weather. If we don’t have any natural light to work with, we'll bring our professional lighting equipment.
The general timing of a newborn photoshoot is 3-4 hours. This includes setup activities, changings, feedings, second attempts at certain poses and clean-up. Call us today at 289-272-5045 or use this form for a free quote!
